Sociedade de Desenvolvimento Rural (SDR) is a partnership between Mozambican entrepreneur, Dr. Selemane Ibraimo, and Mozambique Conservation Organization (MCO). The company was founded in 2007 in Dr. Ibraimo’s home province of Inhambane. It is a unique blend of ideas involving agribusiness, conservation and social service. The underlying goal of SDR is to promote sustainable and viable rural economic development in Mozambique, which will allow for the conservation of the country’s valuable fauna and flora.

Agribusiness carried out under the correct model allows for an economically viable business that is in harmony with the existing ecosystem. SDR’s two initial projects, Cattle and Small Grains, are proving this in the Inhambane Province. By creating a profitable business model for local communities, Mozambicans earn currency and provide a reliable food source, both which in turn lessens the need to poach for “bushmeat”or to denude the forest to sell as “illegal charcoal.”

Mozambique Conservation Organization (MCO) has provided the initial funds for these two projects and has pledged continued support. Individuals or companies that would like to get involved with these exciting projects, please click here to contact us.
