Small Grains Project
Sociedade de Desenvolvimento Rural (SDR) has been invited by Gaza Province officials to start a similar cattle and small grains project on the southern side of the Limpopo River. This “low-veldt” area is known for the high nutritional level found in its grasses. SDR will provide an update after their trip to Gaza in early May.

Muabsa Cattle Project

SDR is supporting the Muabsa Project in the Inhambane Province. The Inhambane Provincial Government has asked for SDR to provide better cattle genetics to the government sponsored Muabsa Cattle Project. SDR foresees future cooperation on the project with the provincial government and hopes to coordinate feeding weaned cattle from this project with its other cooperative cattle farms.

Sinave Project
SDR field personnel recently reported spotting over 20 illegal Nyala strung up in a “bush meat” market. These Nyala were taken from a remote riverine area in Central Mozambique.

The Sinave Project, sponsored by SDR and MCO, is a program dedicated to controlling the over harvesting of rapidly declining plains game populations in the area. The good news is that antelope quickly repopulate when proper management practices are enforced.

Medical Supplies
Over $5000 of medical supplies have been procured in the US by SDR’s partner, MCO. They will arrive on the next quarterly shipment to SDR in Mozambique. These medical supplies will support the needs of the people in the remote areas of Northern Mozambique. The transshipments of supplies are scheduled to launch from Houston, Texas destined for Maputo 4 times a year.
